GiAPA Licensing

When you want to get started with GiAPA, you can choose the option that best matches your current needs and objectives. Whether you’re looking for a quick performance snapshot, a focused analysis, or continuous insight into how your IBM i applications perform, GiAPA offers flexible ways to begin.

GiAPA licenses are offered as annual subscriptions, while the AAA trial is free of charge and the Health Check is available as a one-time option.

Please read more about the individual options below.

AAA

AAA is short for Automatic Application Analysis. It is they part of the free GiAPA trial and completely free to use. It collects 48 hours of performance data from all active jobs within one selected LPAR and then identifies the third-best optimisation opportunity in two areas — one program function and one file access. For each, GiAPA shows the potential performance gain and the estimated time needed to implement the improvement.
In short, AAA is the perfect appetizer to discover what GiAPA can do — at no cost.

Health Check

A GiAPA Health Check provides a complete 48-hour performance analysis based on data collected from all active jobs on one selected LPAR. You get full access to every hotspot and can use all of GiAPA’s analysis and optimisation features to improve job performance across the board. It’s the logical next step after AAA — but you can also start directly with a Health Check to gain immediate, in-depth insight.
The Health Check is priced at just 25% of a full license and can be upgraded to a full license within three months — making it an easy, low-risk way to unlock the full value of GiAPA.

Full license

A full GiAPA license allows continuous 24/7 data collection, ensuring that every relevant performance event is captured automatically. Whenever GiAPA detects a job using more than a user-defined CPU threshold (default 4%) during a 15-second interval, it records detailed hotspot information about job activity and file access. With GiAPA active, you always have the data you need to analyse and optimise performance. A popular feature is the Good Morning Report, providing a daily overview of system activity during the preceding 24 hours.
Licensing is per LPAR, based on IBM i model and number of active cores.

Operations license

The Operation License runs continuously like the Full License but without collecting hotspot data. It provides 24/7 operational monitoring and reporting on all job activity — ideal if you need a complete workload overview but not the in-depth analysis required to make program changes. This option is often used by outsourcers who want to track system utilisation and assess whether each IBM i unit has sufficient capacity to host additional customer LPARs. The Operation License is priced at 50% of a full license and follows the same model — based on IBM i model and number of active cores for the designated LPARs.

SQL Observer

GiAPA’s SQL Observer continuously monitors SQL activity on IBM i systems, identifying statements that cause excessive CPU or I/O consumption. It highlights inefficient queries, missing indexes, and resource-heavy operations, enabling developers and DBAs to pinpoint optimisation opportunities and improve database performance. SQL Observer is included in the Full GiAPA License but can also be purchased separately when the primary goal is to improve SQL performance.
An SQL Observer license is priced at 33% of a full license and can be upgraded to a Full GiAPA License at any time.
